Garden and Flowers

I’m bewildered at the number of blooms still in the garden (helianthus, cosmos, roses, salvia, achillea, helichrysum, statice). Enough to make a bouquet or two if push came to shove.  The impact of global warming is really scary.

Although there is always plenty to do, I’m feeling reasonably up to date, just a few alliums not yet planted (oops). Tulips are now in the ground:I had the bright idea of using an area recently cleared as a result of our landscaping, but now they are in the ground I’m concerned that the drainage won’t be great.  Will they rot??

The ranunculus pre sprouted successfully and have now been potted on and some autumn sown hardy annuals are now in the ground (cornflower, corncockle, nigella, and ammi majus).  There is also a reserve set still in pots just in case of disasters.

Thankfully I managed to get the dahlias labelled while still recognisable.  I label them religiously each year but the pesky birds keep pulling the labels out.  So this year I’ve resorted to the wrap around labels and hope it does the trick.  As usual, most will be left in the ground after I’ve cut them down to ground level, and covered with a tarpaulin until spring.  Notice the future tense.  A job that will have to get done in December.  We’ve only had the lightest of frosts here on the Cotswold Edge.

I’ll be leaving the twiggy perennials for their structural beauty and for insects to overwinter and will cut them back in early Spring.

I’m continuing my video garden tours each month and have hundreds of  YouTube subscribers.  I wish I had more time to add more content. One day….?
