A Succession of Flowers
As well as cutting thousands of flower stems, I’ve also been working flat out to ensure I have a succession of flowers (my excuse that this edition is 2 weeks late!) The cutting patch has been looking fantastic for several weeks but in recent days I’ve been ruthless and removed beds of “past their best” flowers to replace with sowings from early 2022. So far the hit list has included honesty, corncockle, hesperis, phacelia, ranunculus, anemone, and greenhouse grown cornflower (who’s idea was that??).
I remember someone once told me as soon as you find yourself picking through a bed to find some good flowers, “it’s time to get rid”. Fortunately I have a plethora of annuals at the ready this year. I’m really looking forward to showing it all off in British Flowers Week when the garden will be open on Tuesday June 14th (Tickets still available). Flowers looking good or about to pop at the moment include sweet peas, nigella, larkspur, foxglove, sweet william, ammi majus, astrantia, cornflowers, daucus, lagarus ovatus (bunny tail grass), snapdragons, clary sage, cynoglossum.
