Summer to autumn in my business
How did that happen? September already? It's been a pretty busy few months since the last diary entry and now the robins are singing their autumn song which to me signals the transition between seasons. My feet have hardly touched the ground since June with some beautiful weddings, workshops, garden tours, bouquet and subscription flower deliveries, farewell flowers and florists' orders.
On the wedding front, several couples have enjoyed my “halfway house” package. Esther and Ed for example, picked up 4 buckets of flowers to decorate the marquee on their farm, while I made the bouquets, buttonholes, a flower crown and hair flowers. An added bonus was that as part of Esther’s hen weekend, her friends secretly organised a garden to vase workshop to finish off their special girly weekend together. They were such a giggle!
I’m hugely grateful to everyone who has supported me so far this season and to my ever growing support network (Julie, Anna, Anthea, Lidia, Lily, Samantha and Tim) who have helped me keep on top of various parts of my business from flower cutting and drying to gardening, admin, baking and bushwacking.
Needless to say, the season isn’t over yet, and plans and planting are well underway for 2022: On the whole, everything has grown pretty well since I last checked in. Sweet peas and dahlias have been stunning as usual, the ammi didn’t get carrot fly (although other umbellifers did) biennials sown in June are now in the ground, hardy annuals are in various states of germination, spring bulbs and corms have been ordered and beds are being cleared and mulched as we speak in readiness for planting at various points over the autumn/winter.
